Stone Sour’s First-Ever Revolver Magazine Feature

It’s Stone Sour week on Revolvermag.com. In celebration, Revolver Mag resurrected their first-ever Stone Sour feature from the November/December 2002 issue!

WAIT AND BLEED
After five years of service to Slipknot, Corey Taylor and James Root return for a shot of Stone Sour

By Kirk Miller

Corey Taylor’s on a rampage. The Slipknot singer’s decade-old project Stone Sour are just hours from playing an L.A. show—their first appearance outside of Iowa in years—and Taylor’s mind is boiling over with hostile thoughts. And, as usual, he’s going to share them.

“So many bands try to be over the top these days,” he gripes. “It’s time to let the music do the talking, man. It’s like all these bands that come out today that are all makeuped out, fucking all decked out…”

All wearing masks?

Taylor and the rest of Stone Sour erupt in laughter.

It’s obvious that this band isn’t the same “People = Shit” animal that Slipknot fans—and journalists—are accustomed to dealing with. It’s kind of…fun.

With the tension dissipated, Taylor continues his rant, this time with a smile. “What Slipknot were doing was so different,” he explains. “We’ve proved our point, and now I want to do something completely different. This,” he opens his arms to the room, “is something we couldn’t do in Slipknot.”

That “something” is Stone Sour, a band Taylor started 10 years ago in Des Moines with drummer Joel Ekman, guitarist Josh Rand, bassist Shawn Economaki, and guitarist James Root, one of Taylor’s Slipknot compatriots. The quintet intended to become the giants of Iowa metal. But things didn’t quite work out as planned.
